Your knowledge has the ability to change somebody’s life. Your experience in any sphere like fitness, food, yoga, business, parenting, etc. can bring lots of benefits to the society. And people are ready to pay for your advice. But to start helping others and get an exposure as an expert you need to tell the world about yourself and your expertness. You need a personal branding strategy.
As you already may know, personal branding is a powerful tool that differentiates people in the same niche. Recently I’ve described in details what is a personal brand, why and how to start building it by defining your expert type and analyzing your niche. You can find all this information in the previous article “Personal Branding Tips: How to Become an Influencer.”
In this article I would like to describe you the most important and effective techniques that have already been used by famous entrepreneurs, and should be used by you if you want to promote your personal brand. Let’s go!
1. Know your strengths
Before you start selecting the best channels for your personal brand promotion, spend some time to understand what you really like in communication with people. It is important to understand your weaknesses, but you should always focus on your strengths!
Ask yourself these questions:
Do you like speaking? Or maybe you like visualizing your ideas?
Do you like teaching others? Or maybe you like sharing your personal thoughts on everything?
Hard enough. There are lots of things you never thought about but they are really important in identifying your further personal branding strategy.
I want to share my technique with you.
There is one test that helped me to understand a lot of things about myself. It is SO accurate that you will be shocked! And it is totally free.
Here is the link for you to take it.
There is no need to tell everyone about the results of the test. But please just be honest to yourself!
Knowing yourself will help you to select the most effective channels for your personal brand promotion strategy.
2. Select your channels for promotion
There are so many social media platforms that you could hardly have time to visit all of them during the day. How can you promote there?
The biggest and most common mistake of starting entrepreneurs is trying to be everywhere at the same time. This is how it usually happens: you make a list of the most popular social networks, create pages there and start posting daily. What happens next? Nothing. No growth and no time. You are tired and desperate. This time-wasting strategy will never bring you results.
So what to do?
Here is the most effective formula that should be used if you really want to skyrocket your online visibility and promote your personal brand:
[Personal brand promotion strategy = a personal website + 1 primary social media + 1 additional social media]
A personal website
You could ask why you need a standalone website if there are so many channels with millions of potential clients who are so active in engaging with content?
You are right, but think about one thing! Social media algorithms are changed so often that you never know where your customers go tomorrow.
Your personal website is your guaranteed online visibility, your only property on the internet and your main weapon on the market!
Building a personal brand means building a reputation. If you want to play this game seriously and with a long-term prospective, you need a website.
Think about famous personal brands like GaryVee, Tony Robbins, Richard Branson. Each of them has successful businesses, each of them is highly popular on a social media. And each of them has a personal website. You also need one!
A primary social media
To define a primary social media channel for your personal brand promotion decide on the following:
- What is your Expert type (you can read about the expert types and its channels in the Part 1.)
- Who is your target audience (analyze the portrait of your target client, his age, geo-location, interests, behavior)
Regardless of the channel you selected for your promotion, be it an Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter you should invest maximum efforts and time in growing only this very channel:
- Be consistent and make a post once 1 day or at least 2 times a week;
- Create useful content and engage with your audience;
Additional social media
A secondary social media channel is also important, though it doesn’t need so much of your time investment. Use it for cross-posting of your content, promoting your primary social media channel and boosting traffic to your website.
3. Create expert content
The main rule of any content is the following: BRING VALUE!
Nobody is interested in what you’ve had for a breakfast this morning or why your dog peed on your new couch.
Create useful content. Please!
Recently I’ve made a post on Instagram with the rules of how expert content should be created. And I learned that this question is really interesting to my audience.
P.S. If you still don’t follow me there – do it! 🙂 I will be more than happy to share my experience and knowledge with you:
Creating any content for your social media follow 80/20 rule:
80% of useful content related to your niche;
20% of self promotion.
Bring value, be consistent and your audience will find you very soon!
Remember, you have the power to provide immeasurable impact to the society by sharing your experience and knowledge. Communicate your message to people and change this world by bringing value through your personal brand! I believe in you.
